What is Required for a Visitor Visa for UK

There are different types of visitor categories to enter the UK. These include a standard visitor visa, business, study, and other permitted activities. You can stay in the UK for a maximum period of up to six months, and you can apply for an extended stay if you have good reasons to do so.  For instance, medical reasons in the UK.

What do you need for the visitor’s visa? 

You need to demonstrate that:

  • You are a genuine visitor
  • You have a valid current passport or travel document
  • You have full intention to leave the UK at the end of your visit or the whole of your stay and do not plan to stay for longer than six months.
  • You have evidence of any activities you intend to perform while in the UK, including business and other activities.
  • You can afford your inward and outward journey including flights.
  • You have access to sufficient funds in order to support yourself and any dependents throughout your stay without accessing public funds in the UK
  • You have adequate travel insurance and have made suitable arrangements
  • The application form is online

What is allowed and not allowed as the permitted activities: 

You can visit the UK as a visitor:

  • To see your family or friends
  • For tourism, for example on a holiday or vacation
  • For medical reasons
  • As an academic, senior doctor, or dentist
  • To study, do a placement, or take an exam
  • To do a recreational course of up to 30 days, for example, a dance course
  • To take part in a school exchange program
  • For certain business activities, for instance, attending a meeting or interview
  • To pass through the UK to another country
  • To volunteer for up to 30 days with a registered charity

The things you cannot do - while getting a visitor’s visa in the UK:

  • Live in the UK for long periods of more than 6 months
  • Marry or register a Civil Partnership, or give notice of marriage or Civil Partnership. Instead, you will require to apply for a Marriage Visitor visa
  • Claim public funds
  • Do unpaid work for a UK company or as a self-employed person

What are the other eligibility requirements? 

 For this, you must check that you have a passport to travel to the UK. It must be valid for the entire time you stay there.

  • You do not intend to live in the UK for a longer period or make the country your permanent residence
  • You must be able to pay for the onward and return journey or must be able to make the payment of the entire journey.
  • You must be able to support your dependent and yourself on the trip or have the funding from someone who will be able to support you.
  • You will leave the UK after the trip ends.
